About Us

Jim is the founder of ONeal Law LLC. For over thirty years, Jim has practiced law in the Birmingham/ Shelby County area with a focus on complicated business litigation matters and sophisticated business transactions.

Jim began his career in the tax section of a major international public accounting firm, receiving the Certified Public Accountant designation in addition to his admission to the Alabama Bar Association. Following that, Jim became a partner in a well-known Birmingham law firm.

Jim has handled jury trials, bench trials and arbitrations, in both state and federal courts, involving many types of high stakes business disputes including financial fraud, partner/member/shareholder disputes, restrictions on competition, class action determinations, fraudulent transfers and contractual matters.

Additionally, Mr. O’Neal has handled many complicated financial transactions including capital acquisition, business sales and purchases, reorganizations and recapitalizations, mergers and acquisitions, financing, assorted contracts and complex asset protection strategies.

Jim graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law, received his M.B.A. from the University of Alabama College of Commerce and Business, and acquired his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi School of Accountancy.

Jim has held the Martindale Hubbell AV Rating for over 25 consecutive years. Martindale Hubbell ratings reflect the consensus of anonymous Bar-member peers on an attorney’s adherence to ethical standards, diligence, conduct and reliability combined with his/her legal knowledge, analytical capabilities, judgment, communication skills and legal ability in specific areas of practice. Martindale Hubbell’s ratings include CV (average), BV (good) and AV (excellent). The AV rating is the highest attainable.
